James is a PhD Research Student with a multi-disciplinary background, he completed a master’s degree at the University of Southampton, specialising in Mechatronics. After this he went on to work as a Design Engineer developing Intelligent excavators, spending some time working in Osaka, Japan.

James joined the ERC grant FORCE-UI team to investigate the use of Pneumatic and Hydraulic control to incorporate a Force modality into tangible interfaces. His research currently focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of pneumatic force deformable surfaces.

James is particularly interested in the crossover of disciplines during the development of novel interaction devices, as well as exploring various digital fabrication technologies.
